I. 2026 BPhO Round 1 Key Dates & Registration Information
According to the latest competition schedule, the 2026 China region BPhO Round 1 will implement a strict batch-based registration system. Students must register through the WeChat mini-program "ASDAN International Academic Challenge." The specific timeline is as follows:
- First Batch Registration: 5 June 2026 to 1 August 2026. This phase is only open to students who won Gold or Silver awards in SPC, or Gold awards in IPC.
- Second Batch Registration: 2 August 2026 to 1 September 2026. Slots will be released to SPC Bronze award winners and IPC Silver and Bronze award winners.
- Official Competition Date: 10 November 2026 (Tuesday), 17:00–19:00.
Important Note: Since 2025, the number of BPhO participation slots in the China region has been strictly limited (totalling 3,500 seats), with the vast majority preferentially allocated to award winners of prerequisite competitions (IPC/SPC). Therefore, it is crucial to secure your qualification through prerequisite competitions as early as possible and start your preparation in advance.

Conversely, having only the correct answer without a rigorous logical chain makes it difficult to achieve a high score. This requires students to deliberately practise "how to demonstrate physics logic to the examiner."
2. Emphasis on Physics Modelling Ability
Competition problems rarely give direct formula prompts; instead, they require students to independently identify the underlying physics model (such as mechanics, electromagnetism, or cross-module comprehensive problems). Regular exams aim to check mastery of knowledge points, whereas BPhO tests whether students can organise scattered knowledge points into a methodology for solving practical problems.
3. Extremely High Mathematical Derivation Threshold
Physics competitions are inseparable from solid mathematical tools. Students not only need to be proficient in algebraic manipulation and functional relationship analysis, but also need to possess order-of-magnitude judgment and approximation skills. Many students, despite having a thorough understanding of physics concepts, often hit a bottleneck of "having the idea but unable to derive further" due to lack of mathematical expression proficiency, which directly limits their maximum score.
4. Professional English Expression Ability
The all-English exam presents a dual challenge for Chinese students. In addition to accurately understanding the problem statement, they must also write out complex derivation processes in standard English.
